Summary
In one line: The church is obsessed with sin, not with Jesus — resisting sin doesn't mean you love Jesus, and you don't free an addict by repeating "you're an addict."
Key insights
- People quit drugs to save their bodies — not necessarily from love of God. Highly disciplined people can still sin, because without faith even good acts are sin (Romans 14:23). You go to heaven because you have Jesus, not because you're good.
- Preach change and a way out, not sin. You stop struggling with what you stop thinking about.
- The ex analogy: "You were my oxygen" — months later someone else is "my life"; you see the ex and wonder what you saw. You got over them by thinking about other things. If they call while you're still thinking of them, you go back.
- Live to please God, not to fear sin — sin is dead because you died with Christ; but to the impure all things are impure (Titus 1:15). "Why do I still think about it, flirt with it?"

The church is obsessed with sin and not with Jesus. Resisting sin doesn't mean you love Jesus. People stop drugs, they stop they stop because they love Jesus. Some people just stop it because they don't want to destroy their body. It has nothing to do with loving God. Because the nature of sin is that sin kills everything it comes across.
If you leave it long enough you within something that something will die. Everything is about sin. These people are lukewarm. These people are sinners. These people are these people are that. Sin. Even me I have sinned. You know, so I'm not condemning but you're condemning yet you are sin. You're corrupted by sin. The church is obsessed with sin not Jesus because they think the absence of sin is the presence of eternal life.
There are people who have such a high discipline. They don't lie. They don't steal. They don't do anything that you would observe to be wrong. But the absence of faith makes even those actions sin because sin is simply to live outside of God's design. That is what this this idea of you know, I I am just I am just I'm a good person. I'm going to heaven. No, you don't go to heaven because you're a good person. You go to heaven because you have Jesus. The church is obsessed with sin. That is an issue.
We want people to break sin but we keep preaching sin to them. Not repentance, not righteousness.
An addict doesn't you don't help an addict by telling them you are addicted. You preach change to them then you show them a way out. You tell them you're an addict and you keep doing the same thing. They will never change because you don't come out of something that you think on over and over again. There are things you used to think about that you no longer think about so you don't struggle with them.
Remember that ex you thought was your life that used to say I can't live without you. You are the air I breathe. They broke up with you.
Your heart was broken.
You said, "I'm finished. I'm dead." You are sick for a few months. Guess what? Today you have somebody else you call sweetheart, my life.
[snorts]
I thought the other one was your oxygen. How did it change? Say, "Yeah, I got over that person." What does it mean to get over them? You don't think of them anymore. You started thinking of other You started noticing other people then you chased after another person, or another person chased after you and before you know it, you have moved on.
There's no urge. There's no desire.
There's no thought.
It's just dead.
Dead.
If you even see them, you're like, "I can't believe I was in love with this."
You start saying, "Lord, I dodged a bullet." No, you are saying, "Let the bullet hit me."
You didn't dodge it. You are thanking God that you dodged because you're like, "God, what kind of babies would we have made?"
Look at that nose, and I used to love that nose. That nose is Am I communicating?
You start saying, "Oh, look Look at what they even started dating. Oh my god, what a downgrade." You start saying all these crazy things because But when you are in love, they were Mount Everest to you.
If we ever break up, I will never be in love again. You know what? I'll just be by myself. I don't want anyone else.
But today you are over it.
You moved on from it. Because you chose to think away from it. Because you notice there's no benefit on thinking of it. They are not coming back. It will never happen again. Let's just You know what? Let me focus on other things. And you focus on other things. But in the moment you're thinking of them, they can call you and you go back. And then you say, "But I Why am I even doing this?" Uh, you start crying. Why?
I keep going around this loop until you make a decision. This is not going anywhere. All those things, it's simple. You stop thinking of it. You got over it. So, our goal should be to please God, not to fear sin. Because are we living for sin or are we living for Christ? So, there are people who think they are living for Jesus, but all they are doing is living a life fighting with sin, yet sin is already dead because you're dead. But because your consciousness continually and consistently thinks of those things, everything you see is impure. To the pure all things. To the impure all things are impure.
So, you have to sit down and ask yourself this serious question, honestly, what am I about? What am I truly about? God has set me free from this. Why do I still think of it? Why am I still flirting with it? Why am I still thinking on it? Because if you don't start thinking like that, you will not break the pattern of sin.
