If You're "Being Proactive" For God, Watch This Before You Pray Again

Summary
In one line: "God helps those who help themselves" is a lie — it's not in Scripture. God loves proactive people, but He helps those who depend on Him, not those who run ahead of Him.
Key insights
- A wrong formula fails even with a right heart. People invent solutions, call them "God's idea," and blame the devil when they fail.
- "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord" (Psalm 37:23, Psalm 119:105). Pastors who can't fill a room of 15 raising funds for 500 seats — God isn't in it. Why not be content as a local pastor?
- His own story: no plan for a church — just a home prayer group on Thursdays (as his mother prayed on Thursdays) that outgrew the house. People call it strategy; "there was no plan."
- Jacob wrestled; God broke his hip to slow him down (Genesis 32:24-32) — he was living for himself while destined to be a nation. Moses and Elijah never wrestled with God.
- "Goodness and mercy shall follow me" (Psalm 23:6) — they're behind you; if you keep chasing ahead, they can't catch up. "When you stop chasing, it catches up with you."
- Sarah "helped herself" with Hagar (Genesis 16:1-4) — the world still lives with the consequences 4,000 years later.
- Gospel, not just repentance: no one repents without the good news. Salvation is believing on Jesus, who purges sin; "stop doing that" preaching misunderstands deliverance — our own righteousness is filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). All still sin (Romans 3:23, 1 John 1:8).
- Prayer with a side plan is already chopped — "you tell God your plans instead of waiting for His."
- Allegiance: naturalised citizens renounce their old nation (asylum seekers who visit the country they fled get denaturalised). You're a citizen of heaven (Philippians 3:20) — divided allegiance makes heaven say "you're not one of us." Even mighty angels depend on God; Satan was "denaturalised."
- "God doesn't need our help. We need His."

If you love God, but what you have is not truth, it doesn't mean your prayer will work. Because prayer is a formula that has to really what's the word I'm looking for that you have to stick to. If the formula is wrong, even if the intent is right, it doesn't work still,
you know. And um but there are times God is merciful. he could push you along, but he won't always do it because he still wants you to learn the correct way.
So, I'm planning on doing this little series that we're going to do it perfectly in a little bit. But one of them is God helps those who helps them who help themselves,
which is a lie.
There is no verse like that in scripture. It doesn't even exist.
It's a big lie.
It's a big lie. God helps those who help themselves. So, you hear people saying this, ah, you're doing this. Don't you know that God helps those who help themselves? So what would be the point of God helping you if you can give yourself help?
So that's one of the biggest lies that has ever been told which has led people to formulate their own results.
Claiming it to be God, saying that God gave them an idea but it had nothing to do with God.
And when things go wrong, they blame it on the devil.
But it was always them that what they did had no foundation. uh was not carried by God. It was not God's desire. It was never anything to do with God. Their need drove them to do something that God was completely against.
Against? Yeah.
Oh, Taylor. Sup, coach.
So, so understand this. Understand this by by God's grace, right? God loves proactive people, but God doesn't want you to go faster than him.
We are supposed to be led by God. Meaning that God determines our footsteps. The footsteps of the righteous are ordered by the Lord.
You know, your word is a lamp unto my feet.
So if I am creating a solution and I'm going ahead of God, that means that God is not in anything that I'm doing. M
now we see that we see that in church we see that with men of God and we see that with believers whereby I've seen men of God going to get a big venue.
Okay.
The guy can't gather 15 people.
He's saying that we we need a building fund. Uh we need to get a place that will sit 500 people. You know, God is not in it because if your small place that can gather 15 people cannot gather 15 people whereby there's lines of people outside, it means God is not sending you to get a big building.
Yeah.
Why are you going to go get a big building? Maybe your assignment doesn't include having hundreds of people or millions of people. You know, I realized that this idea of helping yourself literally puts our own will in thestead of God or in thestead of God's will
because every every pastor I know I know personally, let me not say that. Maybe that may not be completely accurate, but as far as I can think, all of them want a big church. Why aren't you happy with being just a local pastor?
Mhm. Why aren't you happy in just serving God's purpose?
Like for me to be honest with you,
pressure.
Yeah. But pressure put on themsself because because when God calls you, God didn't call me announcing it to other people.
He called me by myself. So even though I understand that God by his calling since I was a child, he told me who I was going to reach and who he was going to bring to me. So I am not trying to do something outside of my own capacity
that God has granted me because easily I could have just had a small church but my plan wasn't even having a church. You guys remember my goal was just okay God is telling me to start a prayer group. So I'm going to start it at home with a family and that's what it's going to be. Then it just continued to grow and grow and grow that we couldn't keep people there anymore until God told me now it's time to move. I never even moved. Yeah.
you need space because we'll have hundreds of people in in the summer in the house. It's packed and I've never stopped doing a Thursday night since the day that we started Thursday nights.
So for me, it was an agenda from God. So other people come and say, "Man, you're so smart." The strategy was so good because on Thursdays, nobody's at church. Most Bible studies are like on Tuesday. So that's like a perfect to me. There was no plan. We we just we prayed at home on Thursday. My mother prayed at home on Thursday when I was growing up. Thursday was just what God told me to do and I just continued with what God told me. It wasn't any invention that was like, "All right,
strategic move." I I didn't even know what other churches are doing.
So many of you that are watching right now, your battle is your wrestling with God.
I'm I'mma say that again for somebody else.
You're not Jacob. Even Moses never wrestled with God. Elijah never wrestled with God.
No, no, no, no. But but but here's the thing.
Break the hipbone.
But do you know why God did that? To slow him down. Slow down, sir.
He was going to be a nation
and everything he was doing was for self. He wasn't thinking of the big picture that God has for him.
His own name is a nation.
So, you have to understand that you cannot go ahead of God. You cannot move faster than God. And it's a sin to do so because you'll end up in the traps that the enemy has set for you. God doesn't help those who help themselves. He helps those who depend on him,
those who wait on him,
those who look to him,
those who trust him,
those who have their faith in him,
those who trust in him,
not people who can create their own solutions. If you can create your own solutions, God is not in it. I don't know what you have to say, Bishop.
No, you're right about that. you know, um, go pressure and the the imposed image of what success look like
make people move.
So you if you grow up being told that God helps those who help themselves.
Yeah.
You're actually doubting God cuz you're like,
I'm not doing something. If I'm not doing something, then God is not coming for me.
Yeah. which that's serious deception because now people end up living their whole life doing that
trying to go ahead of God
only to realize you've been chasing what? Cuz even scripture tells you that
goodness and mercy shall follow you. So it's behind it's not in front of you.
Yeah. Yeah.
It's behind you.
Say that again. Bishop. Bishop. Say that again. Bishop.
Goodness and mercy Mhm.
shall follow you. That's what the Bible says.
Mhm.
So if you're looking to that ahead of you, then you're looking in the wrong place, which is what people are do.
We're always chasing
something that is behind us.
And because we are chasing, it can't even catch up to us. Have you realized that sometimes when you stop chasing, then the thing comes to you,
it just caught up with you
because you've been going ahead of it.
Now you stop and it caught it catches up with you. So God helps those who help themselves becomes the fundamental lie that misleads people. And you pray it affects everything. You pray things don't work. You're like why? God does not answer. So you start forming those things in your mind. Eventually
is there a God?
No, there is God. But you've been running away from him because of a fundamental lie that was told
at the beginning of of your life.
But think about it. How did it turn out for Abraham?
Sarah helped herself.
There you go.
That's right.
Sarah did help herself.
She did.
We're still facing consequences of that today. Jesus.
Yeah. [snorts]
What was what, 4,000 years later?
We're still suffering. So it's uh it's a we we have to get to a place where we understand that dependence on God. You see even when it comes to salvation
there are so many preachers and some of them are popular because they believe in the repentance message. I believe in it too. It's the most important message that anybody can preach. But I don't believe in the repentance message. I believe in the gospel, the good news. Because no one can repent without the good news. Because the new good news has God's full package to bring you out of sin.
But when you hear a man of God telling you you need to stop, you need to do that's somebody that does not understand how God actually delivers people from sin.
Because salvation is not really about sin. Salvation is about believing on Jesus
who will purge you of all sin. M
so if I am chasing perfection outside of God then I'm putting on filthy rags that could not save me in the first place.
So if I'm saying you need to stop this me stopping it didn't save me.
Yeah.
So how much more will it save me when I am in Christ?
I can be advised to rely on God so that God can deliver me from the filth of sin. But you're not saved when the rapture comes. We all sin still. We don't sin like we used to. But trust me, somewhere you offended God in one way or another for sure. Does that mean you'll be left?
See, all men have all men have sinned short of the glory. And anybody who says that they have not sinned, they are what? A liar.
So dependence on God is is such a is such a fundamental truth that if one doesn't have it, you keep formulating your own things and you will not even know the power of prayer. Because you see when you pray, you commit to what you're saying before God.
If you are praying but you are also thinking about what you will do on your own outside of God, how will your prayer work? Your prayer is already failed.
Your prayer is chopped. It's like, "Help me, God. I'm going be doing this thing on the side."
Yeah. Yeah. I'm I'm going to be
What's the plan?
What's the plan? So, you are telling God your plans instead of waiting for God to give you his plan. Fire that. It's crazy. And this is where the devil gets people. This is how people fall into traps of the enemy. This is how people fall into various temptations and distractions because you don't understand that when you're dealing with God, God requires your total. You see, let me say this way.
When you become an American citizen, right, you are made to swear an allegiance to America if you are being naturalized. All right? M
or even when you are what's it called an American you I pledge allegiance to the flag you do that but when you become naturalized yeah you you denounce your nation they take your old passport
and then you become an American meaning that your allegiance is to America not to any other country
so if a war was to break out even against your own country
you will your old country you will fight for America you have no choice because You're an American now.
Okay. But this is the problem with immigration. Like I was watching this uh thing talking about Poland. Was it? No, it wasn't Poland. It was somewhere in Europe. I can't remember what country. 70% of people who filed for asylum saying that they were going to be killed in their country or they were going to be destroyed. In a month of them receiving their citizenship, they visited their countries that they ran from.
They went back home. they went back home. So, they're all going to get denaturalized.
They're literally working on that because you lied.
If your country was so bad,
why would you go and visit it the moment you got papers?
You get what I'm saying? So, it's the same way when you are serving God.
You're a citizen of heaven, but at the same time, your allegiance is still to your old ways.
Your prayer won't work.
Heaven will say, "You are not one of us." Because those who are in heaven rely on God.
Even angels who are powerful in the sight of God still depend on God.
And Satan got denaturalized. His citizenship, his place was revoked.
So you need to understand that depending on God is great. It's the only way.
Being proactive is important, but don't go ahead of God. If you do that, your entire life, your entire life will completely change.
God doesn't need our help. We need his help.
So, we are not making the work easier for God because he never said it was difficult in the first place.
God is not seeking help.
God will make it work his own way. So my advice to you is today, rely on God.
Everything you do, rely on God. Don't do your own thing.
Let God do his thing. See what I did there? I was waiting for you to
Uh, all right. Remember, New York is coming up October 20th. If you haven't gotten your ticket, go get it now. They are almost out. Go get it. It will be the best investment of your life because God is going to move in such a special way and you will be blessed beyond measure. I promise you the grace of God that will be poured out will be too much. So go to my profile or go to revelationurchla.org and or you can go to ticketmaster and just type revelation nights or type my name. It will bring it up. But don't buy your ticket from another website. Only do ticket master. Every other website they kind of took like a few a few hundreds of them and they kind of hiked the price up like way beyond uh what it should be. But such is the world. So, make sure you get your tickets from ticket master. May God bless you. Uh, I'm here with the bishop again. Bishop, any last words?
God bless you. Rely on God.
Big Moose, do you have a word? Come, come on, Big Moose. You know, come give us a revolution. Not a revolution.
Give us a revolution before we let the people then go.
Uh, as the prophet said, rely on the Lord. It is your best bet because if you don't seek him and what he desires for you, you can do nothing at all.
Mhm.
So there we go.
Now you have you have a deep revelation you're holding. Just just drop it.
Just drop it. Big M. John the Baptist comeback.
Wow.
Stop it. Um honestly pops I think one of the biggest issues in the Christian community is the fact that we actually don't know how to wait on his voice. And that's what makes us frustrated
and keeps us from being
uh seekers of seekers of his presence but of what we can do to sustain ourselves.
And that's one of the biggest discrepancies in the Christian community because then that's when we look for outward expression to be the reason why
we have motivations to do things and we say it's in the name of God. So honestly, the best cleansing would be by purifying your heart before the Lord and asking him to weigh you
and seeking what he desires for you. Because if you do that, then
you know, you're good to go.
All right. I'm like, "All right, big." Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. All right, family. Love you all. God keep you. Go get your tickets. Boom.
